Magnetic tape for digital storage has now been around for over 60 years and in the tech world, that’s more than old, it’s positively ancient. After reading some recent survey results which showed that for many businesses tape was the primary backup storage, we thought it was time to revisit this esteemed and distinguished medium.
Tape, like all good technologies, has maintained a state of constant evolution in order to survive now and for decades to come. And while tape may not be the ‘coolest’ storage on the block, it’s redeeming qualities are many: it is cheap, it is easy to use, it is reliable, it is durable. All of which make tape the perfect partner for backups.
Check out the infographic below for a couple of snapshots into tape storage’s history so far.
